Chapter 6

Matari opens her heavy eyelids, and recognizes the slightly dirty ceiling.

As her hazy vision gradually clears, Matari realizes that she is in her inn room.

Her body is heavy. Her head hurts. Her joints ache as if she has a cold.

(…… Huh, I was sure I was in the labyrinth.)

When she turns over, wondering, Matari finds Yuusha at her desk.

The expression on her face is different than usual, and it is so serious that she wondered if she was a different person.

It is the first time Matari has seen her look like that, and she is curious why.

She looks at her, wondering what exactly she’s writing.

She can’t see it well from the bed. She seems to be writing in some kind of book with a pen.

Yuusha draws her pen over the paper, occasionally looking troubled.

(Maybe if I get a little closer, I will be able to see what she is doing?)

With that thought, Matari leans forward and her pillow falls off the bed.

The noise caused Yuusha to silently close the book. She stops what she was doing and approaches Matari.

“――Good morning. How are you feeling?”

“U-Uhhh. I’m not really sure. But I think I’ll be fine with some rest.”

“I see, well, there’s no to push yourself. Take your time and rest. A warrior needs to rest. Especially since you’re going to keep rushing until you fall down.”

She smiles wickedly and brings a plate of fruit from the desk.

A variety of fruits are cut into bite-sized pieces to make them easier to eat.

Matari is thirsty and thinks the fruit look fresh and delicious

“You must be hungry after sleeping for a whole day. Go ahead, eat as much as you want. I bought it with your money, so don’t hesitate.”

At Yuusha’s urging, she chooses one at random and throws it into her mouth.

The fruit juice spreads in her mouth. A nice sourness seeps through her mouth and stimulates her brain, which is still in a haze.

“……Thank you. It’s very tasty.”

“I tried one, but they’re a little too sour, don’t you think? I had master choose them.”

“N-No, It’s fine. Thank you.”

“There’s some water here. Also, I took the liberty of changing your clothes.”

When Matari looks at her outfit, she was wearing clothes she doesn’t recognize. She wonders when she had changed her clothes.

“E-Eh”

“After you eat that, you need to rest for a while. I don’t want you to push yourself too hard and have you collapse again.”

After saying that, Yuusha moves from the bed, sits down on the chair again, and grabs a pen.

“……Um, what are you writing?”

“Oh, this? It’s a diary. It’s not that interesting. I just can’t calm myself if I don’t write it.”

She approaches her and shows her the book. It’s rude to say, but she thinks it doesn’t fit her.

It really is just a diary. What she saw, what she did, and how she felt about it. Just a mundane diary.

The girl who is always bossy and arrogant, who calls herself a hero and uses magic.

It was unsettling to think of her quietly holding a pen and summarizing her daily events.

“……Have you been doing it for a long time?”

“………Yeah, well. It’s a really silly routine.”

After stumbling a bit in her response, Yuusha replies. Then she continues.

“I am writing it as proof that I lived. Even though I know that no one will ever read it. I’m sure I won’t. But that’s okay. Even if I disappear, this diary will remain for a while. I think that’s enough, to just leave something behind.”

“Yu-Yuusha?”

Matari raises her voice, and Yuusha smiles bitterly with a sigh. With a tired expression that is inappropriate for her age. The only thing she could read from it is resignation.

“It’s nothing. Forget it. I’m just talking to myself.”

With that statement, Yuusha returns her gaze to the desk, not intending to speak anymore.

After a moment, silence envelops the room. Only the faint sound of a pen writing in the diary is heard.

“…………”

Matari lies down on the bed again, and then tries to jog her memory.

Why did she collapse? Did she suddenly catch an illness and pass out? She doesn’t think so.

There is a gap in her memory. The memory of her returning to the Paradise Pavilion is missing

Matari gives up on trying to remember for the moment and tries to recall her memories of working with Yuusha.

She dragged the hungover Yuusha out and left the Paradise Pavilion. Warrior’s Guild. Challenging the underground labyrinth. The encounters with demons. And then they encountered Jabba and his friends.

――Yellow arrows. Red arrows.

Matari’s head begins to ache. Her body is in pain. But she doesn’t have a scratch on her now. Anxiously, she asks Yuusha.

“Yuusha. Why did I collapse?”

“You didn’t collapse from fatigue. It was just meaningless tension. I guess it’s something psychological.”

Yuusha’s curt words come back to her.

(……Fatigue? No, I’m sure)

A scene flashes in Matari’s mind. Along with a red color.

Without listening to Yuusha’s warning, Matari rushed into the small room.

There were multiple sounds of something cutting through the air. Sharp objects are fired from every direction.

Her body being pierced. A bright red liquid flowing out of her mouth. The creepy man who scoffed from the top of the box.

(Surely, I should have been pierced by arrows. And yet, there is not a single injury on my body.)

Matari checks her body again.

She was changed into an unfamiliar nightgown, but there is nothing unusual about her body. Her head and body feel very heavy, but otherwise, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with her.

“Yuusha, I――”

“Shut up. Put off the sermon for after your mental strength is recovered. Now stop whining and go to bed quietly.”

Yuusha shows a displeased expression and tells her in a strong tone.

Matari is convinced that something had happened in that room. What it is. She’s afraid to know. But she has to make sure.

She gets up from the bed and starts walking towards Yuusha. Her wobbly body hits the table and the fruit that was on it falls. The fruit is ruined. Somehow, the juice seeping from the crushed fruit looks like human blood. Her vision distorts.

“Yuusha, I, why am I alive? I am certain it was a fatal wound. So how is it that I am still alive?”

“Why are you alive? Because you’re not dead. I’m pretty sure you aren’t. Your expression is too carefree for a zombie or a ghoul. That’s why you’re okay. You’re still alive.

“I got trapped in that room, and, and then!”

Matari holds her face in her hands. She feels something flow out of her eyes. Her body is cold. Freezing cold.

She remembers her last moments. That gradual loss of consciousness. The fear of approaching death. She tries to forget, but she can’t.

“You’re noisy. I told you to go to bed. We’ll talk about this when you’ve fully recovered. If you refuse, I’ll pound it into your boar-like head. So don’t worry about it, just stay in bed.”

Yuusha forces Matari back to her bed. She holds her down as she tries to resist.

“B-but!”

“No buts. I can recover your body, but I can’t heal your spirit. Sleep is the best way to regain your mental strength. In other words, what you need is a good night’s rest. You don’t have to think about anything. If you understand――”

“Heal? Did you save me? But, how did you do that!?”

Interrupting the words mid-sentence, Matari throws a series of questions at her.

She is more desperate than ever. Matari’s expression looks like she is grasping at straws. She wants to make sure she is alive. If she doesn’t talk to someone, the fear of death is going to overwhelm her. So, Matari grabs the Yuusha’s body with all her might. She grabs both of the Yuusha’s arms, holding and refusing to let go.

Her eyes aren’t normal, an onlooker would think she is mad. Matari’s mind is on the verge of becoming delirious. It is reaching a dangerous limit.

“You really won’t listen to me. I’ll need to straighten you out so prepare yourself. But first――”

While holding her down, Yuusha looks into Matari’s eyes. She catches her attention.

Matari is captivated by her blue eyes, and her body stiffens. It gradually loses its strength, but there is no fear of death as there was before. The freezing cold disappears. A warm relief envelops her heart.

With her eyes wide open, Yuusha mutters a single word.

“Sleep”

The battle is over and the room is so quiet that it’s hard to believe the earlier scene happened.

It’s filled with the smell of blood and burnt flesh.

“I overdid it. Well, I didn’t want to let any of them go, so it’s fine. But, my body is done for.”

She intended to finish off the leader with the first strike. But, it ended up being a half-baked blow.

Her body is not that sharp. She sighs and thinks to herself that she should stop being unarmed until she returns to her normal condition.

A hero does not choose his weapon. If you break one, you find something else. Therefore, Yuusha takes the dagger used by the outlaw.

It’s a product of considerable quality with no cracks on the blade.

Yuusha straps the dagger around her waist and approaches Matari, who is lying on the floor.

She kneels down next to her and observes her body. There are dozens of sharp arrows lodged in it. There is a lot of bleeding. Her bones are shattered from the impact.

――A single arrow to the heart appears to be the fatal wound.

Her eyes remain open, but they will never be lit again.

Under normal circumstances.

“…………”

Yuusha pulls out the arrows one by one with a blank expression. The moment she pulls them out, she feels the unpleasant sensation of scraping flesh.

An arrowhead is caught on a bone. She forcefully pulls it out and a piece of flesh remains stuck to it. She removes her broken armor, she clears up the underneath.

Matari’s head rolls powerlessly. Its empty eyes turn to Yuusha.

Yuusha reflexively moves her hand and closes Matari’s eyes. Her breathing becomes ragged. Touching the corpse for so long makes her feel like she’s going crazy.

You never know when that mouth will mutter a grudge against Yuusha.

“Why didn’t you save me before this happened? Why are you alive. Why, why, why?”

Yuusha pulls out the last arrow and throws it away, holding back her nausea.

In order to calm her mind, she meditates and regulates her breathing.

“……….”

She doesn’t know whether or not she is about to do the right thing. She herself doesn’t know. She can’t decide.

Wouldn’t it be easier for her to die like this?

But she knows what she wants to do. Then she should do that. She would always choose her own path. So she wouldn’t regret it. She made that decision at that time.

――『I have no regrets about this conclusion. I didn’t entrust myself to fate. Everything was decided by me. Yes, it was my choice, and it has led to this outcome. There’s no way I’m going to regret it.』――

Yuusha turns Matari on her back folds her cold hands. As if in a praying position.

“Unify the soul and invoke it so that you are not drawn in. I am alive. I am surely right here.”

She verifies it out loud. Never be drawn in. Even heroes are no exception. Do not listen to the voice of the dead.

She places her left hand on her own chest and her right hand on Matari’s chest. A faint light emanates from Yuusha’s body.

“――Poor, wandering soul, answer my prayers and return to this vessel.”

A pale light flows from Yuusha’s body and into Matari.

At the same time, Yuusha’s face is drained of its vitality. Her breathing becomes ragged and her heart beats hard. Yuusha bites her lip and endures as her consciousness almost fades away. She ignores the unpleasant feeling that tries to make her look back. She never embraces the sweet whispers in her ear.

The intense pain continues. A storm of arrows led to Matari’s death. Equal pain is chipping away at Yuusha’s spirit.

――Not yet. It’s not here yet. Hurry. It’s about to get dangerous. That’s why hurry. I’m not going to make it. Come on, come on. Now!

“Come back, boar girl!!”

The pale light emits a dazzling flash as she slams Matari’s chest with a yell.

Yuusha is flung backward. She takes unsteady steps while barely keeping her consciousness, and wobbles to reach Matari’s side. The light has subsided, but Yuusha’s eyes are still flickering.

She puts her ear to her heart. She hears a heartbeat. She puts her hand to her mouth. She is breathing. The wounds on her body are completely healed. Redness has begun to creep onto her body.

“It worked somehow. Instead, I, almost died.”

A magic she only ever used a few times before. One that violates the taboo of raising the dead.

However, it has no effect on death due to disease or old age. It cannot be used if too much time has passed. It cannot be done even if there is no vessel left. If you cannot endure the pain of the injury, the resuscitation will fail.

The wager is your own soul. The soul of the wandering dead must be dragged in again. While doing so, it is also defenseless. If you answer the voice that tries to draw the living in, you will probably die. If your mind gives in to that sweet whisper.

“I won’t be using it again. Next time, I’ll probably die”

She could hear the voices getting closer than before. It never made it to her ear before. She has a feeling that “it” will be in front of her next time.

This time it was bearable, but draining. She’s running out of energy. She feels like her soul has been worn out.

Her fast heartbeat doesn’t stop. Her vision distorts.

Complaining how she can’t do it anymore, Yuusha lies on the floor. The headless corpse of the outlaw leader is in her sight, which makes her feel even more dispirited.

She turns her gaze towards Matari. She still doesn’t seem to have regained consciousness. Her armor would no longer be of any use. Normally, the user would be dead with this much damage. It was too tiresome for Yuusha to think about something to deceive her.

(I want to lie in a bed now. I’m really tired, I can’t even go back now.)

Yuusha sincerely sighs. Why is she so tired?

Matari, who was the cause, won’t be regaining consciousness for a long time. The world isn’t that nice.

You can revive and heal physical wounds, but you can’t heal a wounded mind. Sleep is the only way to recover.

And she herself is also considerably mentally drained.

That means she has to wait until the time is up in this room littered with corpses and pieces of meat.

She checks the star on her left hand. It will take about thirty minutes. Yuusha thinks absentmindedly that it would be a problem if a swarm of rats came now.

(Come to think of it, if there’s a transfer spell to return, is it possible to transfer to the middle of the labyrinth? Hmm, I don’t know.)

Deciding to ask Matari or the arrogant gatekeeper next time, Yuusha tries to raise the upper half of her body.

――At that moment, there is a sound of clapping from the entrance of the small room.

Yuusha frowns, wondering which idiot is clapping. Maybe the rubbish from earlier had risen as zombies. With a slight regret, she thinks about how she should have burned them properly.

She decides to correct that regret and turns to the direction of the presence to carry it out immediately.

A pink color that isn’t easy on the eyes jumps into her sight. For some reason, it’s glowing even though it’s inside the labyrinth. As if to assert itself.

Yuusha involuntarily cries out and covers her eyes and then lowers her arms slightly.

A pink pointy hat and a pink sorcerer-style robe can be seen. From underneath the pointy hat, long silver hair stretches to the waist.

Yuusha never had anything other than short hair because it was hard to maintain. She had no time for that as she was too busy fighting demons.

A strange woman is dressed in such a pinky outfit and carrying a crystal-skull staff. Her age seems to be between late twenties to early thirties.

It’s safe to say she’s beautiful, but her taste and personality seem to be bad.

Her first impression is 『Pinky with bad taste and character』.

“It was such a sad and touching scene that I was left speechless. A young girl mourns the death of her companion and performs a ceremony for her passing soul. How tragic. Aa, I can’t help but cry.”

She gives a token look of sympathy in a deliberate, performance-like tone. She makes a gesture of wiping her eyes with a handkerchief in her hand.

She doesn’t hide the smile around her mouth, and it’s obvious that she is actually making fun of her. She doesn’t seem to have any intention of hiding it.

――Her personality is rotten. Yuusha, who is aware of her own twisted nature, immediately understood.

As far as she is concerned, there is nothing good in this situation, so it is best to drive her away immediately.

“Yes, then leave now if you’re satisfied. You’re an eyesore.”

“Oh, dear, you’re so unfriendly. Are you getting emotional because of your friend’s death?”

She responds to one comment, and gets two infuriating comments back. Her motivation to continue the conversation is rapidly diminishing. Yuusha’s slight mental strength is being worn down.

The pinky sorceress approaches the outlaw’s leader, who had bid farewell to his head while spinning her staff. The head will never be found, no matter how much she looks for it. It’s because Yuusha blew it away with her proud fist. The remnants are lying all over the floor.

She makes a curious sound as she fondles his torso with her staff. Apparently, she’s checking his gear.

“Hey, were you the one who killed Salvadore and the others? I don’t think he’s the type of person to be killed by a brat like you. I wonder what happened”

“He was so excited when he fell that his head snapped off. It was an accident. I feel bad about that.”

“Hee, I see. That’s amazing.”

“So I’m just offering my condolences. I hope the piece of trash goes to hell soon. Now that you understand, get the hell out of here.”

“Haha, you’re so funny.”

Smiling thinly, Pinkie flicks off the body with her staff. The headless corpse is slammed into the wall and sprays it with black blood.

After getting splattered with blood again, Yuusha decides to complain.

“Hey, don’t do that because there will be blood everywhere. It stinks.”

“I’ll be fine. I use magic makeup to keep the blood off of my face. After all, a woman’s beauty is important. For that reason, I’ll spare no expense.”

“I see. Just get out of here.”

Yuusha plays it lightly and points to the entrance, but Pinky doesn’t move.

“So, can you tell me how you killed 『Salvado the Trapper』? He’s not the kind of guy to be taken down by a mere 『provisional permit』 novice. He’s also killed a number of bounty-seeking adventurers. I’m really curious how in the world you did this.”

Pinky laughs and gradually moves closer.

Yuusha checks the time remaining. Still no change from earlier. Unfortunately, it looks like she has to go along with this.

“So, when he fell――”

“How is it possible that all the other henchmen around him are blown to pieces? It’s a very artistic way of killing. It’s as if they exploded from the inside.”

Pinky walks slowly around the room, checking the corpses one by one.

All of them are in a terrible state, Yuusha thinks to herself. But that’s the fate of fiends.

“Didn’t the alcohol they were drinking ignite and blow up? See, the higher the alcohol content, the more they burned. Probably. I saw it with my very own eyes.”

Without thinking, Yuusha replies appropriately. It takes mental strength to make excuses. This is what happens when she doesn’t think about it.

Pinky’s face is getting more and more irritated, and her gaze is getting sharper.

“……I’m afraid I’m not going to get a straight answer. ――Shall I try to find out?”

“Do it. I don’t mind, but I can’t go easy on you right now, so please just keep that in mind. Oh yeah, yeah, you should think about your will.”

At the provocative woman’s gaze, Yuusha replies with a smile. Her tone began to change. If she launches an attack, she’ll end up at least half dead.

Their gazes clash for a few seconds, and the air is filled with tension.

After a moment, Pinky breaks her gaze and lightly cowers her shoulders.

“I’m not going to do that today. A person who killed Salvadore is dangerous one way or another. Even if it’s a stupid brat, it’s better to be wary of them. It’s not smart to attack them for no reason .”

“That’s good for me. I’m tired for today. I’m tired of dealing with the old lady. She’s so tenacious and persistent.”

Yuusha replies with a wave of her hand. Pinky’s expression changes to a demonic one for a moment, but it quickly returns to a normal one.

Although her personality and tastes were bad, Yuusha gives Pinky a little more credit for her interesting face.

“Well then, before I go, let’s have a business negotiation. I’m busy, too.”

“…Business negotiation ?”

At Yuusha’s quizzical gaze, Pinkie shows her the back of her left hand with a smile.

There is an engraving of a six-pointed star on it, emitting a suspicious red light.

“I am Edelweiss the Sorceress. Also known as Edel the necromancer. I deal in “fire” and “corpses”.”

Something like a human soul oozes from Edelweiss’, or Pinky’s body.

It floats lightly around Edel, emitting an eerie pale light.

Yuusha predicted that it will posses a corpse. She thought so because there was a demon that was similar to this.

“…outer technique user”

The fact that she’s going out of her way to reveal her hand is proof that she’s confident in her abilities.

This woman, it seems, isn’t just pink, so she goes on alert and prepares for a surprise attack.

“I hate that name. I haven’t done anything wrong.”

“You haven’t done anything good. Anyone who uses outer forces……”

“I have. When a person dies they are just a lump of meat. I sweep them up and collect them. I use the lump of flesh to defeat the demons. I extract the demonic essence and deliver it to the church. I get a high rating from my guild. Hence, I am not expelled from the guild.”

Lowering her left hand, Edel grips her staff with both hands. The drifting human spirit enters the skull crystal and its empty eyes light up.

“So, what kind of business deal does this perverse sorceress want to make? I don’t intend to buy a corpse.”

“It’s simple. I want you to sell the body of Salvadore over there and the one of your friend.”

“Huh?”

Yuusha is stunned by the sudden proposal.

“I was actually going to ask Salvadore to sell corpses for my meat wall. Salvadore collects only the heads and discards the torso. But I’ve lost my partner, and that’s why I’m asking you. Do you understand?”

She looks at Matari, who is lying there, and Edel grins wickedly.

This woman is a pervert after all, Yuusha thought strongly. Pinky is enough.

“I don’t care if it’s that Salvador or Salmata, but not this girl. Because she’s alive.”

Pinky makes a ridiculing expression at Yuusha’s words. She doesn’t seem to believe it at all.

Looking at the state of the armor she was equipped with, it’s ridiculous to think she’s alive.

(Well, she’s also crossing her arms in a suggestive way. She looks like a dead body.)

“I know you want her to be alive, but no matter how you look at it she’s dead. You need to get your head out of the clouds. You’re not going to get anywhere if you don’t. The key to this labyrinth is to get over it. You have to keep moving forward.”

“Is that so.”

To Pinky’s helpful sermon, Yuusha responds with a monotone tone of voice.

“That’s right. There’s no mistaking what I said. So, the amount of money. Salvadore is one silver coin. I’ll buy that blonde haired girl for ten silver coins. It’s an exceptional price for a dead body. You should be grateful.”

“Huh.”

“Salvadore is headless and heavily damaged, so he’ll be used as a disposable meat wall. If the damage weren’t so bad, he could have worked reasonably well. The blonde girl, on the other hand, has a beautiful face and is in good condition. I’m going to use her up until she breaks.”

“What are you saying with a smile on your face?”

“When we die, everyone is a lump of flesh. They will rot, and then they will be maggoty, then they will decay and turn to bones. I’m trying to speed up the cycle. I don’t see anything wrong with that.”

“I think there’s a maggot in your head. I’ll confirm it when you’re dead.”

“Thank you very much. Then, here’s your money. Graciously accept it.”

When she says that, she throws a bag of silver coins to Yuusha. Yuusha grabs it, pulls out one silver coin, and throws it back.

She has no intention at all of selling Matari. It was mentally exhausting to bring her back to life.

Though, Yuusha thought that she might as well have taken it as a nuisance fee.

“I’ll only take one silver coin. You can do what you want with that headless one. But not Matari. It’s her second time, but this girl is alive. That’s why I can never sell her. Come and see for yourself if you doubt me.”

“You’re really persistent. Well, okay. I’ll confirm it for you. I’ll say a prayer for you while I’m checking. You should be grateful.”

Edel, who deliberately raises her hands to show her exasperation, bends down beside Matari, and begins to observe her. A little later, she exclaims 『Huh?』 and gives her a dubious look.

“Well? She’s breathing properly, and she has a pulse. And by the way, I didn’t use outer forces, unlike you.”

“…N-No way. Why is she alive. There’s no way she could have received all those deep wounds and healed in time.”

Based on the condition of the damaged armor, Edel predicted the damage to her body. She touches the body, and when she confirms that there are no wounds, she mutters in a daze.

“――I-It can’t be.”

“Maybe she got lucky?”

Yuusha receives a glare from Edel.

“This isn’t something that can be achieved by simple luck. Fatal wounds are impossible to heal. That’s just common sense! ……What the hell is going on?”

Edel closes one eye and gets lost in thought.

“Well, anyway, give it up. It’s kidnapping to take a living person. If you try to force me, I will kill you.”

Yuusha says coldly, but Edel is not convinced. She can’t seem to accept the fact that Matari is alive.

She ignores Yuusha’s words and gets lost in her thoughts.

“……Come to think of it, there was a strange glow. This brat, no way. That can’t be――”

“You need to listen to me.”

“……Haa, it can’t be helped. I’ll just have to settle with this headless Salvadore. I thought I could get a lively, neat little corpse. A real shame.”

Yuusha ignores her as the pervert said words worthy of a pervert.

Edel slams the tip of her staff to the floor and a blade of magic power is released. It slices off Salvadore’s right hand which falls with a smack in front of Yuusha. A red-black liquid flows from the cut surface of the wrist. Yuusha wonders if it’s some type of harassment and probes into her intention.

“……What are you up to?”

“I don’t take credit for other people’s work. That’s your loot. It’s not mine.”

Looking closely at his right hand, she saw that it was engraved with a crossed knife and key. Yuusha assumes that it probably represents an occupation.

Because Edel’s hand had a red hexagram on it.

“What do you want me to do with this hand? Don’t tell me you expect me to make an ornament out of it?”

“Idiot. When you defeat a bounty target, you are supposed to take back the part of the target that has their profession engraved on it. When you get back to the guild, you can boast about it. Everyone will be astonished.”

Smiling suspiciously, Edel starts chanting, turning her staff with a flourish.

In the meantime, Yuusha picks up the wrist and tosses it into the leather bag filled with rotting tails. A pile of stinking tails and a outlaw’s wrist.

Yuusha’s feelings are bleak. She is tempted to incinerate it to refresh herself because she doesn’t care for the money.

But, she does her best to hold out. There are a lot of things that need to be done.

“All right, well, I’ll be going. I’ll remember your face well. I have some more questions to ask you. We will definitely meet again. I hope you are alive and well until the day we meet again.”

Stretching out the end of the word, Edel thrusts her staff. A red glow gushes out of the skull crystal and envelops the headless Salvador.

After a moment, the body sluggishly rises and wanders to the entrance of the small room.

“……You’re taking it home with you?”

“I just need to get used to manipulating it. I’m not going to take it back to the city. I’m going to send it to a certain place and summon it when I need it.”

“Is that so.”

“Well, have a nice day. Until we meet again.”

Edel bowed respectfully as she left, and hums as she heads out. The headless Salvadore follows after her.

Yuusha hangs her head with a sigh. She is praising herself for not just slumping down on the spot.

“She is a troublesome woman. And she remembered my face. I don’t want to see Pink for the time being. Besides, I want to get the hell out of here. How many more minutes?”

Yuusha mumbles to herself. Matari still doesn’t wake up.

In the end, Yuusha waited there until it was time for the transfer spell to go into effect. Fortunately, no demons appeared.

This was because Edel was sweeping through the passageway with the headless Salvadore, but Yuusha had no way of knowing.

When the time came, Yuusha and Matari are sent to the surface. Yuusha tries to carry Matari up and return to the city, holding back her exhaustion. She is covered in blood, so naturally, the gatekeeper finds her and gives her a stern warning.

『It is not allowed to walk around the city while covered in blood because it will lead to a disturbance in public order. If you want a change of clothes, make an offering. If you don’t like it, wash it off at the watering hole』, Yuusha received the words.

Reluctantly paying one hundred copper coins again, Yuusha wraps herself in the white robes of the Star Church. He seems to have ignored Matari because she is injured.

The arrogant gatekeeper looks dubiously at the state of the armor and wonders how she is still alive, but he doesn’t specifically ask what was going on.

He probably can’t worry about every single adventurer.

With Matari on her back, Yuusha slowly begins to head to the Paradise Pavilion. After that, she has to go to the Warrior’s Guild to redeem the parts.

“It’s been a very eventful day. Tomorrow, let’s take it easy. Let’s drink and relax. Let’s do that.”

The sun had completely set. The city of Art is bustling with adventurers and travelers.

――The long day for Yuusha was finally over.

Pinky has appeared.

I’m currently rewriting the first few chapters I translated, so if you start reading further right away the translation quality will be lower than this chapter. It takes a surprising amount of time to fix everything and I’m translating new chapters at the same time so it will probably be done in a few weeks months so if you want to read a better translation come back then. Since I’m procrastinating even with just the regular translations and I constantly change certain terms for something that fits better I’ll improve it when I complete this series in a consistent style.
